Our SensuRest Cool Gel mattresses offer the latest technology in the mattress industry. First, you have to understand that there are two characteristics that best describe the quality and the firmness of these products. The first and foremost characteristic is the density of the Cool Gel material, which is the basic measurement of mattress quality. Foam, after it is manufactured, is a combination of material and air. If you weigh a piece of foam that is a cubic foot, and the scale shows it weighs two pounds, it has a density of 2.0#. The higher the number, the more material and less air is in the foam. The lower the number, the more air and less material is in the foam. The industry standard for regular foam is a density of 1.2#. At Jonathan Stevens we use mostly 1.8# density or better. For specialty foams like the new Cool Gel technology, the density starts around 2.5#. In some models, we use 4.0# or better. Remember the higher the number, the higher the density of the foam and the better it will be for comfort and durability.
The second important number provides a measurement that is best described as the firmness rating of the foams—the higher the number, the firmer the foam. Keep in mind that firmness ratings of 15# to 50# can all be obtained in high quality foams and low quality foams.
In our SensuRest line of memory foam, we exclusively use a Cool Gel-Swirl Viscoelastic foam. We added a heat-conducting 100% polyurethane gel-polymer to our already superior slow-recovery foam to provide highly breathable foam with superior cooling properties creating a more comfortable sleeping surface.
